Q: Will a 2003 Subaru WRX turbo engine fit into my 2002 Subaru Legacy GT?
The engine in my 2002 Subaru Legacy GT Limited blew a head gasket, and now I am looking for a new engine. I found a 2003 WRX turbo engine that sounds great, but I don’t know if the two engines can be interchangable between the two vehicles. Thanks for any help!
A: The 2.5L engine in your Legacy and a 2.0L engine from the WRX are virtually identical. There are a couple problems though. One is your Legacy is heavier than a standard WRX, so you will not gain a huge amount of performance, and you will lose some fuel economy. Also, you would need to change several things including the exhaust, instrument cluster, engine management to have it run correctly. Also, with that, it would be much cheaper to replace a head gasket than a whole engine. A head gasket is $60, and labor on a head gasket would be about 4-5 hours at $90/hr. A complete good engine for a WRX is about $2500, plus 8-12 hours labor at $90/hr.

Theres more to it, but that list should get you started. Also with having the WRX PLEASE, PLEASE Invest in a PPG Transmission (Pfitzner Straight Cut Dog Box Trans) Or else you will be blowing your trans up easy. The 02-03 Trans are nicknamed “Glassbox Trans” because they break.

I am getting my license very soon and I plan on getting an 02 Subaru Impreza WRX for my first car. I am curious to know what will be the monthly cost of my insurance (an estimate). I will be on my parents insurance and they have Liberty Mutual. I know that the WRX has one of the highest insurance rates but I want to know if it will be doable or not. Thanks in advanced.
A: It depends on variables. If you decide to get insurance with it, go with Liberty Mutual they give you Subaru safety discounts.
The wrx will be expensive to insure, but not as expensive as the STI.
I pay around 127/month for my Sti
no tickets or accidents.

If i modified a WRX with a performence exhaust system, cold air intake, and some sport suspensions would it be just as good as an STI?
A: Forget the cold air intake; add exhaust, tune, and suspension and you’re probably 90% of an STi…except for brakes.

Q: can i put subaru wrx parts in liberty?
my boyfriend has a subaru liberty lx ‘96 model and needs to replace his rear shocks as they are leaking and not working. he has found shocks for a subaru wrx and doesn’t know if they can be used in a liberty, any advise please? can any other parts from other models be used as well?
A: No, he can not use those. It’s a different chassis. If you are ordering from the internet, that same vehicle is called the Legacy in the US.

A: It really depends on how much of the engine you need. Are the heads still god or not? For a short block, I have seen them for sale in the NASIOC classifieds for about $500 running. They are about $1500 new from Subaru. If yo need the heads too, it might run closer to $1000 used and $2500 new. Labor will run about $1500 for a short block R&R. If you need heads too and they need to be assembled, it will be more. So in short the answer to your question is between $500 to $5000.

Hello I’m looking into purchasing either a 2002 or 2004 Subaru WRX. I live in Connecticut i am 20, have had my license for 2 years with no accidents or tickets. I would like to see what others are paying in insurance. I have to figure out car payments/insurance rates. I would prefer people from Connecticut but i would also like to see some rates from other states! Please help!
A: The only answer I can give you is to call around for insurance and go to a web site like www.bankrate.com and use the auto loan calculator to see what payments would be. I have a feeling that being 20 years old and purchasing a fairly sporty car is going to give you insurance shock.
